Metropolitan Emmanuel & Archbishop Elpidophoros Co-Chair Commission for New Orthodox Church Charter

His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon and His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America have been appointed as co-chairs of a Mixed Commission to develop a framework for an amended or new charter to be presented to the Ecumenical Patriarchate for consideration.

The Mixed Commission is tasked with developing a framework for an amended or new charter for the Orthodox Christian Church. The charter will be presented to the Ecumenical Patriarchate for consideration and approval.


As co-chairs of the Mixed Commission, Metropolitan Emmanuel and Archbishop Elpidophoros will work together to develop the framework for the new charter. They bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the task, having served in various leadership roles in the Orthodox Christian Church.


Metropolitan Emmanuel is the President of the Conference of European Churches and of the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops of France, as well as Co-President of the World Conference of Religions for Peace. He has been actively involved in promoting interfaith dialogue and cooperation.


Archbishop Elpidophoros has served as the Orthodox Secretary of the Joint International Commission for the Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox Church and the Lutheran World Federation. He has also been involved in promoting interfaith dialogue and cooperation, particularly between the Orthodox Christian Church and other Christian denominations.


The appointment of Metropolitan Emmanuel and Archbishop Elpidophoros as co-chairs of the Mixed Commission is an important step in developing a new charter for the Orthodox Christian Church.
